AI Image Metadata Remover
Remove metadata from images and AI photos: EXIF, GPS, C2PA Content Credentials and AI prompts. Free, unlimited, and nothing is uploaded.
Everything you need in one AI Image Metadata Remover
Runs in your browser
Images are read and cleaned on your own device in a background worker. No upload, no server, no account.
No quality loss for JPG, PNG and WebP
We cut out the metadata bytes and leave the image data untouched, then prove it by comparing the picture data before and after.
See before and after
A grouped viewer lists location, device, dates, editing history, AI data and Content Credentials, then re-scans the clean file.
Three presets, batch and ZIP
Remove everything, keep the AI disclosure and copyright, or remove only AI data. Clean many files at once and download one ZIP.
How to use AI Image Metadata Remover
Add your images
Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or AVIF files, or paste from your clipboard. Add as many as you like.
See what's inside
The tool reads each file in your browser and lists what it found: GPS location, camera details, editing software, C2PA Content Credentials, AI generator tags and saved prompts.
Pick what to remove
Remove everything, or choose Privacy clean to keep the AI disclosure and copyright.
Download clean copies
Get each file or a single ZIP. We re-scan every output so you can see what is left. Your originals are not changed.
What metadata does this tool remove?
Image files carry data next to the picture itself. It's useful for your photo library, but you may not want to share it. This tool lets you remove EXIF data, GPS location and other hidden fields in one pass.
EXIF and GPS location
Camera or phone model, lens, serial number, capture time, software and exact GPS coordinates.
XMP and IPTC
Editing history, creator tool, captions and the IPTC "Digital Source Type" field that marks an image as AI-generated.
C2PA Content Credentials
A signed record of which app or AI tool made or edited the file. ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Microsoft Copilot, Google tools and some cameras add these.
AI prompts and workflows
Stable Diffusion (AUTOMATIC1111, Forge), ComfyUI, InvokeAI, Fooocus and NovelAI save prompts, seeds, models and full node graphs inside PNG files.
Hidden extras
Embedded thumbnails, comments, Motion Photo video and data tacked on after the image.
| Format | What's removed | What's kept | Quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG / JPEG | EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA, comments, thumbnails, Motion Photo data | Colour profile, orientation | Unchanged (no re-save) |
| PNG | Text chunks (prompts, ComfyUI workflows), EXIF, XMP, C2PA, timestamps | Colour profile, transparency, animation | Unchanged (no re-save) |
| WebP | EXIF, XMP, C2PA | Colour profile, transparency, animation | Unchanged (no re-save) |
| HEIC / HEIF | Everything (the file is rebuilt) | Picture | Re-saved as JPEG (or PNG if transparent) |
| AVIF | Everything (the file is rebuilt) | Picture | Re-saved as JPEG (or PNG if transparent) |
We keep your colour profile, so colours don't shift, and your photo stays the right way up.
Remove C2PA Content Credentials from images
C2PA Content Credentials are a signed record inside the file that says which app or AI tool made or edited it. ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Microsoft Copilot, Google tools and some cameras add them.
This tool removes the C2PA manifest from JPG, PNG and WebP without re-saving the image, and rebuilds HEIC and AVIF files without it. A Content Credentials checker will then find no credentials on your copy.
It doesn't remove pixel watermarks like SynthID, and it doesn't change what you're required to disclose.
Why remove metadata from images and AI photos?
Most people don't know what their files say about them. A phone photo can show where you live. An AI export can include your full prompt, the model you used, or folder paths from your computer. Cleaning files before you share them is basic privacy hygiene. To remove AI metadata from an image, drop it in the tool above and pick a preset: you see what was found, then download a clean copy.
Protect your location
GPS coordinates in a photo can be accurate to a few metres.
Keep your prompts and workflows yours
A Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI PNG is a full recipe that anyone can load and copy.
Send clean files to clients
Deliver work without device serials, editing history or internal file names.
Slightly smaller files
Dropping thumbnails and extra data trims file size without touching the picture.
Your files never leave your device
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your images are read and cleaned on your own computer or phone. They are never uploaded to Xgenious or anyone else, and we don't store, see or log them.
You can check this yourself. Open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and clean a file: no image data goes out. Once the page has loaded, you can even turn off your internet and keep working.
Small print: We use standard site analytics to count visits and button clicks. It never includes your files, filenames or metadata. See our privacy policy.
What this tool can't do
Invisible watermarks stay.
Google's SynthID and similar watermarks are part of the pixels, not the metadata. No metadata tool can remove them, and we don't try.
It doesn't make an AI image "real".
A file with no metadata only shows that there is no record. It is not proof of anything.
Platform records stay.
If a platform already has your file, cleaning your copy doesn't change theirs.
What's visible stays visible.
Faces, street signs and reflections in the picture are not metadata.
Using AI images responsibly
This tool is built for privacy: keeping your location, devices, prompts and private files to yourself. It is not a way to pass off AI-generated images as real.
Many platforms ask you to disclose realistic AI-generated or AI-edited content, whatever the file's metadata says. Meta (Instagram, Facebook, Threads), TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn have AI-labeling or disclosure rules, and they also use their own detection. New laws add transparency duties too, such as the EU AI Act's Article 50 obligations (applying from 2 August 2026) and California's AI Transparency Act. Removing metadata doesn't change what you're required to disclose.
If you need to keep the AI disclosure, for example when delivering AI-assisted work to a client, use Privacy clean. It removes location and device details and keeps the AI label and copyright information.
Please don't use this tool to mislead people, to strip credit from someone else's work, or to break a platform's rules or the law.
Who uses an AI metadata remover?
Freelancers and agencies
Strip GPS, device details and prompt history before you deliver images to clients. Use Privacy clean when the client needs the AI disclosure kept.
AI artists and prompt engineers
Share finished work without giving away your prompt, seed, LoRAs or ComfyUI workflow.
Marketers and e-commerce teams
Publish product shots and blog images without camera serials, internal file paths or editing history.
Journalists, NGOs and anyone at risk
Remove location and device details from photos before you send or post them.
Everyday sharing
Selling something online, posting in a forum, or sending photos of your home: clean them first.
Which AI tools add metadata to images?
Many AI image tools save information about how an image was made. Here's what we usually see. It changes over time, so always check your own file with the tool above.
ChatGPT / DALL·E (OpenAI)
C2PA Content Credentials.
Google Gemini / Imagen
C2PA and IPTC tags, plus a SynthID watermark in the pixels.
Adobe Firefly and Photoshop Generative Fill
C2PA and XMP.

C2PA Content Credentials.
Meta AI
IPTC tags, plus an invisible watermark.
Midjourney
XMP/IPTC description fields.
Stable Diffusion (AUTOMATIC1111, Forge) and ComfyUI
Prompts, settings and workflows in PNG text.

It deletes the data saved inside an image file next to the picture: EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA Content Credentials and AI prompt text. The picture itself stays the same.
